Why This Works (Neuroscience Insight)

Working memory relies on the prefrontal cortex, while cognitive flexibility involves the anterior cingulate cortex and basal ganglia. Briefly presenting sequences and requiring recall after delay engages maintenance and updating processes. Switching between numbers/letters increases cognitive control demands, strengthening neural efficiency over time.
